16-year-old Dutch Laura Decker became the youngest yachtswoman to sail around the world. Her achievement has not interested the publishers of Guinness records.

They said that they do not want to promote underage persons to participate in dangerous journeys. Until then, the youngest yachtswoman to sail around the world alone was Australian Jessica Watson. When she finished her sail around the world, only three days were left until her 17th birthday. She sailed around the world with stops, sometimes lasting up to three weeks. Laura Decker sailed around the world without any stops. She sailed on January 20 2011 with her 11.5 meter long yacht. Her journey lasted almost one year. In order to improve previous record, she had to come back until September 20 2012. Jessica Watson finished her journey on January 18 2012. Laura Decker became a yachtswoman since the age of four and wanted to sail around the world since she was fourteen. In order to go on such a journey, she had to receive an official permit of Dutch court. In 2010, such order was received. However, later on the court managed to prolong her departure by a couple of months by issuing a statement prohibiting her to sail around the world all by herself. Laura Decker became the youngest person to sail around the world not only among women but also men. The youngest man to sail around the world was 17-year-old British Michael Pirham. He managed to overtake the previous youngest sail American Zach Sunderland. His sister Abby Sunderland has tried to become the world’s youngest yachtswomen to sail around the world in 2010. However, then 16-year-old got into a storm and her yacht was severely damaged. She was saved by fishing boat’s crew.
