Kaliningrad shipyard Jantar builds military frigates for the Indian Navy. The first such frigate Teg has been tested in the Baltic Sea.

The frigates Tarkasch and Trikand have already been lowered into the water. The frigates of 125 meters in length and 15 meters in width are designed to combat submarines and other ships. They have also anti-aircraft defense systems.

Russia was ordered to build these frigates because it offered cheaper prices. The preliminary construction cost is 1.6 billion U.S. dollars. According to the Russian safety classification, the vessels will be equipped with missile systems. The first such ship will be transferred to India after its second test in the Baltic Sea which is planned for this month.

At the same time, India has order France to build six submarines, Scorpion-class ships. Their construction cost will be 3 billion U.S. dollars. Up until now, India used ten Soviet-type diesel submarine ships. At this time, Indian Navy has twenty military frigates, one aircraft carrier and two more under construction, eight destroyers and three more under construction, twelve submarines and six more under construction. India’s Navy has twelve aircraft and eleven helicopters.
