Also, there are plans to revive passenger shipping line to Kotka (Finland) and to one of the Russian ports. The town of Sillamae has a U.S. steel plant Molykorp Silmet. This company along with some other prominent Russian businessmen is the main sponsors for various development projects. They also own and operate Sillamae port company Silport. Each year, Molykorp Silmet manages to make production worthy of 11 million U.S. dollars. Last year, the port managed to handle 5 million tons of cargo and this year plans to handle 6.5 million tons. In the period of five years, the ports plans to reach 14 million tons of cargo handled per year. According to such development speeds, the port of Sillamae can be compared to the Russian port of Ust Luga. The companies employ 400 persons.
