A ferry company DFDS Seaways received the world’s most prestigious prize, the World Travel Award (WTA) prize for their contribution to ferry business.
The awards were distributed in Qatar’s capital Doha. Every year, this organization gives 150 awards for various tourism related services, such as hotels, airlines, travel agencies, shipping and other fields.
These prizes are sometimes referred to as Oscars for travelling businesses. Six nominations are dedicated for sea cruise business. The best cruise line was elected Royal Caribbean Cruise Line. The same company also received a prize for the best cruise business logo. The best country for cruises was Jamaica and the best port was Dubai. The best cruise travel agency was Cruise.co.uk and Star Clippers won in the election for the World’s Leading Green Cruise Line Company.
DFDS Seaways was competing with such global business leaders from New Zealand and other European countries as Acciona Trasmediterránea, ANEK Lines, Attica Group, Bluebridge Cook Straight Ferry Service, Brittany Ferries, Interislander, Irish Ferries, Minoan Lines, P & O Ferries, SeaFrance, Stena Line, Tallink Silja Line. WTA prizes for sea ferries businesses are being distributed since 1994. During that time, only four companies managed to receive these awards: P&O Ferries (1994, 1997, 2007, 2009, and 2010), Tallink Silja Line (1995), Stena Line (1996, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, and 2005) and Brittany Ferries (2008). DFDS Seaways is the fifth company to be awarded this prize.
